Santa Clarita, CA. – A CHP officer was critically injured in a crash on Interstate 5 in Santa Clarita early Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the mishap occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on the southbound 5 Freeway, north of State Route 14.
The CHP officer was assisting the disabled vehicle when a 2023 Tesla struck the officer standing outside his patrol vehicle.
The CHP officer suffered major injuries, was transported to a local trauma center, and is currently listed in critical condition.
The Tesla stopped on the right shoulder and the motorist cooperated with the investigation.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the accident.
