Santa Clarita, CA – One person was hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision that happened Friday night on a freeway in Santa Clarita, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The pileup took place around 9:03 p.m., February 13, on the northbound 5 Freeway, just south of State Route 14.
According to CHP, at least three vehicles, including a red Toyota Tacoma, were involved in the accident.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported a passenger from the truck to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities did not immediately determine the cause and manner of the accident, but an investigation is ongoing.
Over the past few years, Santa Clarita’s total fatal and injury collision counts have remained relatively stable with modest year-to-year fluctuation. In 2021, the city had around 691 victims killed or injured in reported serious crashes. That figure rose to approximately 768 victims in 2022 and was 765 in 2023, indicating little net change between 2022 and 2023 after a slight increase from 2021.  Subcategories such as alcohol-involved collisions, speed-related crashes, and nighttime collisions remained prominent components of the total serious collisions each year. Vulnerable road user involvement — including pedestrians and bicyclists — also showed modest variability but consistently contributed to the serious injury totals. These trends suggest that while overall serious collision counts in Santa Clarita have not dramatically increased or decreased in recent years, persistent high-risk conditions remain part of the local traffic safety profile.
