Chandler, AZ — The authorities are investigating a rear-end crash that claimed the life of one person and left another injured on a Chandler freeway early Wednesday morning.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle struck a tire and rim that was in the middle of the roadway, DPS troopers said. The involved driver stopped with the vehicle blocking one lane of the freeway.
About 15 minutes later, a second driver, heading in the same direction, was unable to avoid the stopped car and crashed into its rear.
Both drivers were transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, the driver of the first vehicle was declared dead at the hospital. The DPS did not state the extent of injuries sustained by the second driver.
The name of the deceased driver was not released pending identification and notification of the family.
The crash remains under investigation.
