Fresno County, CA. – 30-year-old Cesar Ochoa died in a broadside collision that happened Monday evening at an intersection near Kerman, the Fresno County Coroner's Office reported.
The wreck took place around 8 p.m. at Butte Avenue and American Avenue.
According to investigators, Ochoa was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado south on Butte Avenue, approaching a stop sign at the intersection with American Avenue.
At the same time, a 2017 Honda Civic was traveling west on American Avenue.
Authorities said Ochoa ran the stop sign, entered the intersection, and crashed into the passenger side of the passing Honda.
The Chevrolet continued southbound into a field where it hit a power pole guide wire before coming to a stop.
Ochoa, a resident of Kerman, exited the vehicle and collapsed at the scene.
The Honda veered off the roadway after the first impact, ending up in a dirt field, where it overturned and came back to rest on its wheels.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and airlifted Ochoa to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The driver of the Honda was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be contributing factors.
