Riverside, CA – One person was killed after a vehicle overturned on State Route 60 in Riverside Saturday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:38 p.m. on December 13, 2025, on eastbound State Route 60, about 0.4 miles west of Day Street.
According to CHP, a vehicle traveling eastbound on SR-60 was observed sparking and swerving prior to crashing. A report indicated the vehicle had run over large debris in the lanes, which damaged the vehicle before it ultimately crashed and overturned.
The driver, identified as Carlos Montoya, a 33-year-old resident of Wildomar, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased at 8:07 p.m. The next of kin have been notified. It was unclear how many occupants were inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. No arrests were reported.
CHP stated that the vehicle damage caused by roadway debris is believed to have contributed to the crash. Further contributing factors have not yet been confirmed.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene and conducted the investigation. Riverside County Coroner’s Office personnel were called to the roadway at approximately 8:10 p.m. Riverside Animal Control officers also responded to take possession of a dog found at the scene.
The crash impacted traffic along eastbound SR-60 as emergency responders worked to secure the area, investigate the collision, and clear the overturned vehicle from the roadway.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol – Riverside Area.
