Benton County, WA – A Washington State Patrol trooper was injured in a crash with another vehicle near Kennewick in Benton County on Wednesday evening.
According to the authorities, the crash occurred at about 7:15 p.m. October 7, on Interstate 82 near milepost 129.
Initial reports indicate that a marked white 2023 Ford Explorer had its lights activated while assisting with lane closures on eastbound I-82.
An eastbound gray 2019 GMC Terrain failed to yield and crashed into the WSP patrol vehicle.
A trooper sitting in the patrol car, identified as Matthew Parham, 38, of Kennewick, was taken to Lourdes Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the GMC, Shayla J. Mackley, 30, of Hermiston, Oregon, was not injured.
Both motorists were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Impairment was not suspected to have played a role in the crash but failure to yield was identified as a factor.
According to the authorities, charges against Mackley are pending.
The accident remained under investigation.
