Bakersfield, CA. – William Gerry Porter, 39, has been identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as the bicyclist who died after being struck by a car on Thursday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 12:10 a.m. in the southbound lane of Weedpatch Highway, south of Eucalyptus Drive.

A 27-year-old man was driving a 2005 Infiniti sedan when he struck the bicyclist.

Porter was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained and cooperated with the investigation.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor for the driver.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
