Martin Alcantar Dies After Bakersfield Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision

Bakersfield, CA. – A man was killed and another pedestrian was injured after both were struck by a vehicle in Bakersfield Saturday night, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 9:59 p.m. on June 6, 2026, near the intersection of Kern Street and Dolores Street.

Investigators said the driver had just turned north onto Kern Street from Dolores Street when the two pedestrians reportedly walked into the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk and were struck by the vehicle.

One pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The second pedestrian suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 62-year-old Martin Alberto Alcantar of Bakersfield. Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests were reported.

Police said neither speed nor intoxication is believed to have been a factor in the Bakersfield crash.

Officers from the Bakersfield Police Department responded to the scene shortly after the collision was reported and conducted an on-scene investigation.

The crash caused disruptions in the area near Kern Street and Dolores Street while authorities investigated the collision and cleared the roadway.
