At around 8:07 a.m. January 27, authorities responded to reports of a collision on the eastbound side of the highway at Towerline Road.
Initial reports indicate that three vehicles collided on eastbound Highway 58. Shortly after, at least 12 other vehicles were caught up in the pileup.
The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans District 6 crews responded to the site of the collision.
There were reports of injuries to occupants of the involved vehicles. The number of those hurt and the extent of their injuries were not specified.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 58 were shut down at Towerline Road while the westbound lanes were closed at Highway 223. There was no estimated time of when the highway would be reopened.
Further details on the crash were not immediately released. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
