Bakersfield, CA – A 58-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on North Chester Avenue in Bakersfield late Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Preliminary investigation findings indicate that a 22-year-old woman was driving a 2008 Infiniti G35 northbound on North Chester Avenue when a pedestrian, later identified as Diana Cruz Tellez, entered the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk and into the path of the oncoming vehicle. The Infiniti struck the pedestrian, causing severe injuries.
Tellez was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests have been reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were factors.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to provide aid and manage the situation.
The crash impacted the area along North Chester Avenue as authorities conducted their investigation.
