Avondale, AZ – A motorcyclist died in a traffic collision that happened Wednesday morning on Interstate 10 in Avondale, the Arizona Department of Public Safety reported.
The collision transpired around 8 a.m. on the westbound I-10 near Avondale Boulevard.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a motorcycle and a passenger car were both traveling westbound in the HOV lane, and another vehicle was parked on the left shoulder, partially blocking the HOV lane, with a flat tire.
Authorities said the driver of the passenger car was changing lanes when the motorcyclist moved to the left of the HOV lane to pass the vehicle. The rider ended up hitting the rear of the car that had a flat tire.
The impact caused the rider to be thrown from the bike onto the traffic lanes, where they were run over by an oncoming vehicle that was unable to slow down on time.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported the rider to the hospital. The victim later died while receiving treatment.
No other details were available, but an investigation is ongoing.
