Authorities Identify Victims of Colusa County Wrong-Way Head-On Crash

Colusa County, California (August 23, 2022) – Authorities identified the four people who died in an early Monday morning wrong-way head-on crash involving two cars in Colusa County.

The victims were Timothy McDaniels, 57, of Vacaville, Quincy Lovelace, 28, of Suisun City, and Christopher Martinez, 34, of Suisun City, all who were occupants of a 2022 Nissan Altima heading southbound on Interstate 5, and 24-year-old Celeste Gonzales of Maxwell who was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima northbound on southbound Interstate 5.

52-year-old David McDaniels of Suisun City survived the crash with serious injuries. He was an occupant of the 2022 Nissan Altima.

The crash happened at about 12:48 a.m. near the Maxwell rest area, according to CHP.

Timothy, Quincy and Christopher were pronounced dead at the scene, and Celeste died at Enloe Medical Center, where she was transported for treatment.

Authorities did not immediately determine whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.

The crash left the freeway closed near the scene for several hours.

Maxwell, California (August 22, 2022) – Three people were killed in a wrong-way collision near the Glenn-Colusa County line on Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened shortly before 1 a.m. on Interstate 5 near the Maxwell rest area.

CHP said a driver in a Nissan Altima was heading north in the southbound lanes of I-5 when they collided head-on with another Nissan Altima.

Three people in the second vehicle were sadly killed in the collision.

The driver who was traveling the wrong way was flown to a hospital for treatment.

The identities of the involved parties were not immediately released.

 It’s unclear whether DUI played a role in the incident.

The CHP is handling the investigation.
