Vail, AZ.- At least two people were injured in a multi-vehicle pileup near Vail early Thursday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The incident took place on Interstate 10 at milepost 288 at about 3:15 a.m.

An earlier collision on the eastbound side of I-10 left debris scattered in the roadway.

Another driver passing by tried to avoid the debris and collided with a vehicle involved in the earlier crash.

At least two people were taken to Tucson area hospitals with serious injuries.

The eastbound lanes were blocked in the area as authorities investigated the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
