Anaheim, CA – One person was killed in a fiery multi-vehicle crash on State Route 91 in Anaheim early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred on the eastbound side of State Route 91 just west of State Route 241 at approximately 5:21 a.m.
According to preliminary reports, the crash involved a white work truck, a box truck, and at least one other vehicle. The collision caused one of the vehicles to catch fire, and flames quickly engulfed it while blocking multiple FasTrak and mainline lanes. Authorities also reported that at least one propane tank exploded during the incident, while additional tanks had not yet detonated, increasing the danger at the scene.
At least one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Information regarding additional injuries has not yet been released. No arrests have been reported in connection with the crash.
Emergency crews, including firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers, responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the blaze, secure the hazardous materials, and manage the aftermath. A full freeway closure was implemented, followed by a hard closure of the eastbound lanes, with only limited lanes reopening later in the morning.
The crash caused significant traffic disruption in the area, with all eastbound lanes initially blocked and a SigAlert issued. Lanes remained closed for several hours as crews cleared debris, conducted the investigation, and ensured the roadway was safe for reopening.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and officials have not yet determined what led to the initial impact or the resulting fire.
