The collision led to the closure of Highway 395 for several hours as crews cleared the roadway and officials conducted their on-scene investigation.
The incident remains under investigation, and officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the California Highway Patrol, California records thousands of fatal crashes annually, with a significant number involving young drivers and multi-vehicle collisions on highways.
