Adelanto, CA – The man who was killed in a fiery accident that took place near Adelanto on Sunday afternoon has been identified as a 19-year-old Victorville man, according to authorities.
Xavier Macias died in the accident that was reported at about 12:11 p.m. December 28, on southbound Highway 395, nearly one mile from Torosa Road.
According to California Highway Patrol, a black Land Rover Luxury SUV collided head-on with an oncoming four-door sedan. It’s unclear what caused the collision. The Land Rover burst into flames following the accident.
Two Good Samaritans helped pull out an occupant of the SUV. The San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived shortly after and attended to eight parties involved in the crash.
Macias was declared dead at the scene. Two parties had critical injuries and were flown by Reach Air Medical 43 and Mercy Air 2 to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Three other patients were transported by ground ambulances to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The southbound and northbound lanes of US 395 were shut down as authorities conducted an investigation into the incident.
Family members have setup a GoFundMe account to help with Macias’ funeral arrangements.
The California Highway Patrol troopers are still investigating to find out what caused the incident.

Interstates 10 and 215 are specifically noted as accident hotspots due to heavy traffic flow, high speeds, and complex interchanges. In 2021 data, the county had the second-highest number of speeding-related fatalities among all California counties.
