Lane County, OR – One person was killed after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 58 near milepost 40 early Monday morning, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash occurred on Highway 58 at approximately 8:57 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, when troopers were dispatched to the scene on the eastbound side near milepost 40.

Preliminary investigation by authorities indicates that Aaron Henry Longton, 64, of Port Orford, was driving a Ford F-250 eastbound on 58, when for some reason, he lost control of the vehicle and rolled into a roadside ditch.

Longton, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was ejected during the incident. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. No other vehicles were involved, and no arrests were reported in connection with the crash.

The cause of the crash appears to be loss of control resulting in a rollover and ejection, according to the preliminary findings from Oregon State Police.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Oakridge Fire and Oregon Department of Transportation crews in handling the investigation and roadway safety management.

The highway remained open during the on-scene investigation and was not impacted by closures, though authorities urged motorists to be cautious in the area while responders worked.

The crash remains under investigation as troopers continue to gather additional information.
