Palmdale, CA. – A 47-year-old woman from Rosamond was killed early Sunday after a suspected DUI driver collided head-on with her vehicle along Sierra Highway in Palmdale, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly after midnight, south of Avenue E.
A 29-year-old Palmdale man identified as Gonzalez was driving a 1999 Chevrolet southbound when he reportedly drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a 2018 Hyundai driven by the Rosamond woman head-on.
Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The man suffered severe injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Medical Center before being taken into custody.
Authorities said Gonzalez was later arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter. The driver was witnessed drifting into the opposing lanes several times before the accident.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Traffic along Sierra Highway was closed for about three hours as officers investigated.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
