According to CHP, a 31-year-old Bakersfield man was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna south on Interstate 5 when he tried to pass another vehicle and collided with a 2018 BMW X1 traveling north on Highway 43

Bakersfield, CA.- Two people were seriously injured in a car accident in Bakersfield on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 9:22 a.m., authorities responded to reports of a collision on Highway 43, just south of Interstate 5.
According to CHP, a 31-year-old Bakersfield man was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna south on Interstate 5 when he tried to pass another vehicle and collided with a 2018 BMW X1 traveling north on Highway 43.
The BMW was driven by a 26-year-old woman from Taft.
The driver of the Toyota was ejected by the impact of the crash while the other driver was pinned in the BMW.
Both drivers were transported to hospital with major injuries.
Authorities reported that speed may have played a role in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
