Lemon Grove, CA. – A man and a woman died when they were hit by two cars while attempting to cross a street in Lemon Grove, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The accident occurred around 11:17 a.m. on Broadway near Buena Vista Avenue.

Authorities said a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were trying to cross Broadway when a silver Prius and a gray Acura collided and struck them.

One of the vehicles reportedly ended up wrapped around a light pole after the crash.

Emergency personnel responded and pronounced both pedestrians dead at the scene.

The driver of the Acura sustained major injuries, and the driver and passenger of the Prius suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Sheriff’s deputies closed the intersection of Broadway and Buena Vista for several hours as they investigated.
