Fresno Car Accident
Two Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Highway 99

Fresno, CA – Two people were sent to the hospital after a multi-vehicle collision that happened Sunday afternoon in Fresno, according to the California Highway Patrol logs.

The incident occurred around 2:07 p.m. on southbound Highway 99, just south of the Clinton Avenue off-ramp.

Four vehicles, including a white Ford Ranger and a black Chevrolet Equinox, were involved in the accident.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene to help the motorists, including a male occupant who was trapped inside the Ford Ranger.

Two people were transported to Community Regional Medical Center with the complaint of pain.

Authorities are investigating to establish the cause of the crash.

Fresno continues to face elevated traffic safety risks, with high crash volumes on urban streets and highways like SR-99 and SR-41. Fatalities:

In 2025, the City of Fresno recorded 43 traffic fatalities (through mid-December), exceeding the city’s homicide count (20) for the year. Pedestrians accounted for a significant portion: 26 of the 43 deaths were pedestrians struck by vehicles. Earlier in the year (through August 2025), 17 pedestrian and bicyclist deaths were reported, highlighting ongoing vulnerabilities.

For comparison, 53 fatalities were reported in 2024 and 41 in 2023.

Fresno averages 7–8 police-reported crashes per day, with injury collisions dominating over fatalities. Statewide data (via SWITRS and OTS) shows persistent high frequencies post-COVID, though statewide fatalities declined ~11% from 2022 to 2023.

Dangerous intersections include Friant & Shepherd (21 crashes, 2020–2024), Blackstone & Dakota, and Shaw & Blackstone, often involving pedestrians/cyclists.

The common causes of these collisions include speeding, DUI, distractions, and right-of-way violations. Vision Zero efforts aim to eliminate fatalities, but risks remain high compared to peer cities.  Safety campaigns and enforcement continue, yet pedestrian deaths underscore the need for infrastructure improvements.
