Castro Valley, CA. – A pedestrian died after being struck by a car on Thursday afternoon in Castro Valley.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 1:25 p.m. at Somerset and Anita avenues.

A pedestrian was crossing the street and was struck by a white Chevrolet Tahoe operated by 63-year-old Timothy Dewitt.

The unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dewitt fled the scene but was later located and booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

More details on the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
