, AZ.- One person died in a car collision in Phoenix early Sunday morning, according to a report by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

A red vehicle and a black car were involved in a sideswipe crash in the right emergency shoulder.

The impact pushed the black vehicle off the roadway and it crashed into the median barrier wall.

The driver of the black vehicle was rushed to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The freeway was shut down as authorities investigated the accident.

The crash is under investigation.
