Klamath County, Ore. – One person was killed and two others were injured after a big rig and a vehicle collided on Highway 97 in Klamath County, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash happened at about 10:02 a.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024. on northbound Highway 97 near milepost 174

According to Oregon State Police, Desiree Danielle Johnson, 34, of St. Petersburg (FL), was driving a Peterbilt CMV and trailer southbound on Highway 97 when he lost control and jackknifed in the roadway.

The Peterbilt crossed into the path of a northbound Honda Pilot, driven by Elise Adair Farrens, 37, of La Pine and the two vehicles collided.

Elise Farrens sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Honda, 23-year-old Daviana Marie Trussell of La Pine, was critically injured and was transported to the hospital. Police say Trussell was pregnant and tragically suffered the loss of her unborn child due to injuries sustained during the crash.

Johnson, the Peterbilt driver, sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The highway was shut down for approximately three and a half hours during the on-scene investigation.

The crash remains under investigation.
