1 Hospitalized after Wrong-Way Collision on 5 Freeway near Capitol Boulevard in Olympia
Tacoma, Washington (September 3, 2023) – One person was airlifted after being injured in a collision involving a wrong-way driver on Sunday morning near Olympia.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident happened on the Interstate 5 Freeway near US Highway 101 off-ramp at around 3:20 a.m.
A vehicle was traveling the wrong way on the freeway and collided head-on with a big rig.
Troopers are on scene investigating this collision. I am saddened to announce that as a result of the crash, two people have died. Expect delays if you are traveling through the area.

The wrong-way driver suffered major injuries and was airlifted to the hospital for treatment. He was also arrested on suspicion of DUI.
More details about the accident were not released.
