1 Airlifted After Half Moon Bay Crash on Cabrillo Highway

Half Moon Bay, California (June 13, 2023) – Six people were taken to the hospital, one in critical condition, after a traffic collision that occurred Monday afternoon on Cabrillo Highway near the San Gregorio community, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck took place at around 4:55 p.m. on Cabrillo Highway at San Gregorio State Beach, near San Gregorio Road.

According to CHP, a Subaru and a Chevrolet Malibu were involved in the collision. The Malibu went off the roadway into the nearby bush.

Officers, firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene.

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene to transport one person who suffered severe injuries. The highway was shut down in both directions at San Gregorio Road to allow the helicopter to land. The victim was transported to Stanford Hospital in critical condition.

Five other victims were transported by ground ambulance. One sustained moderate injuries and the other four minor injuries.

Both vehicles were towed away from the scene. The Subaru had major left-side damage and the Malibu sustained possible major front-end damage.

The northbound side was reopened at around 5:30 p.m. and the southbound side at around 6:42 p.m.
