San Diego, CA – Authorities have identified the man who died in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in San Diego early Monday morning, October 26, 2026.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Fortino Gonzalez Vazquez, 65, of Vista, California. Vazquez died at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the medical examiner’s records.
The crash was reported at approximately 3:32 a.m. on northbound Interstate 15, north of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard
The medical examiner’s report states that Gonzalez Vazquez was inside his vehicle, stopped behind a disabled vehicle on the highway shoulder, when the collision occurred. Emergency personnel extricated him from the vehicle before he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol reported that at least three vehicles, including a gray Mazda and a Toyota, were involved in the collision. The circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation.
