Modesto, CA – One girl has died and another remains hospitalized with serious injuries after they were struck by a vehicle in Modesto Friday night, according to Modesto PD.
The collision occurred shortly before 8:50 p.m. on October 9, 2026, in the 1100 block of Coffee Road. Preliminary findings indicate the two girls were walking in a crosswalk when they were hit by a southbound vehicle. The girls were walking to a football game at Downey High School.
Officers assigned to the high school football game arrived shortly after the crash and began performing CPR. Both girls were transported to nearby hospitals, where one later died from her injuries. The name of the deceased girl has not been released. The other girl suffered serious injuries and remained hospitalized.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The crash remains under investigation.
