Modesto, CA – A driver was killed Sunday evening after a collision between two pickup trucks on northbound Highway 99 in Modesto, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The fatal crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. on October 4 on State Route 99 north of Carpenter Road.
A Chevy pickup was traveling north when the driver, identified as John Rojasnaranjo, 22, of San Francisco, changed lanes and collided with a GMC pickup traveling beside it. The GMC driver lost control following the impact, and the vehicle rolled over near Sisk Road.
The GMC driver was partially ejected during the crash and died at the scene. The victim’s identity had not been released.
Rojasnaranjo and his passenger were not injured.
Rojasnaranjo was later arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving with a suspended license.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
