Richmond, CA – A 65-year-old man died after he was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday morning near an intersection in Richmond.

According to authorities, the incident took place around 6:30 a.m. on September 24, 2026, near Maricopa Avenue and 23rd Street.

Richmond police officers and paramedics responded to the area after they received reports of the crash. The responders found the man with severe injuries after he was hit by a car.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. A family member identified the victim as Douglas Vargas, a San Francisco native.

According to the family member, Vargas was possibly collecting aluminum cans when he was struck.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
