
Taft, CA – A man riding an electric bicycle was killed after colliding with a utility bucket truck Wednesday morning at an intersection in Taft, according to the Taft Police Department.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Kern Street, also known as Highway 33, and 10th Street at approximately 10:47 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, police said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a utility bucket truck was eastbound on Kern Street and the driver had stopped for a red traffic signal at 10th Street. At the same time, a man on an electric bicycle was riding eastbound on the south sidewalk of Kern Street, approaching the intersection with 10th Street.
The truck had just begun making a right turn onto 10th Street when it collided with the bicyclist.
The bicyclist was ejected during the collision and died at the scene. The identities of the bicyclist and truck driver were not released. No other injuries or arrests were reported.
Police said alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors at this stage of the investigation.
The incident remains under investigation.
