Nipton, CA – One person was killed in a collision involving a white sedan and a semi-truck on Interstate 15 near Nipton early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision was reported at approximately 2:19 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026, near mile marker 169 on northbound I-15 in the Mountain Pass area.
According to the CHP incident log, the initial report described a white sedan swerving in connection with a semi-truck.
Responding crews found a male with agonal breathing on the roadway and requested an air ambulance.
At approximately 2:44 a.m., CHP confirmed the incident had turned fatal. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office and the county coroner were subsequently contacted.
The CHP log described the sedan as a white four-door Nissan and had only one occupant at the time of the crash.
All three northbound lanes were closed while authorities investigated the fatal crash and arranged for the removal of the wreckage. Traffic was temporarily diverted along the right shoulder.
The No. 1 lane was reopened at approximately 5:27 a.m. as crews continued clearing the scene. A tow service was requested for the damaged Nissan, and the coroner was assigned to the incident.
The identity of the person who died has not been released.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
