Desert Center, CA — One person was killed after a pickup truck collided with a semi-truck on State Route 177 in Desert Center Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash was reported at approximately 3:38 p.m. Tuesday on southbound SR-177.
According to the CHP incident log, a pickup truck lost control and collided with a semi-truck. The pickup came to rest approximately 20 feet off the roadway, trapped underneath the semi. The pickup had a single occupant, while the semi-truck also had one occupant.
The pickup truck driver was killed in the collision. The CHP log indicated the pickup was a total loss, while the semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries. The identities of those involved were not immediately released.
The circumstances that caused the pickup driver to lose control remain under investigation. No information was provided indicating whether alcohol, drugs or speed were factors.
CHP, CAL FIRE, the coroner and other emergency personnel responded to the scene. Authorities requested a heavy-duty tow vehicle because the pickup was trapped beneath the approximately 30,000-pound tractor.
The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
