The fatal Kings County crash happened at approximately 5:45 a.m. Monday on Highway 43 at Nevada Avenue near Corcoran, the CHP reported.
Kings County, CA – A man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 43 in rural Kings County early Monday morning has been identified, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Kings County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 38-year-old Gerardo Flores-Gomez on Thursday afternoon.
The fatal Kings County crash happened at approximately 5:45 a.m. Monday on Highway 43 at Nevada Avenue near Corcoran, the CHP reported.
Investigators said a 19-year-old Earlimart man was driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla northbound on State Route 43 near Nevada Avenue when, for some reason, the Corolla crossed into the southbound traffic lane and collided head-on with a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Flores-Gomez.
Flores-Gomez suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His passenger, a 29-year-old man from Hanford, suffered minor to moderate injuries and was transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center in Visalia. The Corolla driver also sustained minor to moderate injuries and was taken to the same hospital. All three people were wearing seatbelts.
No arrests were reported in connection with the crash. The CHP said alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to have been a factor.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Authorities have not provided a reason why the Corolla crossed into the southbound lane.
The CHP responded to the scene and investigated the crash.
The fatal crash remains under investigation as authorities continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the head-on collision.
