Madera County, CA – The woman who was killed in a collision involving two vehicles in Madera County on Tuesday night has been identified as Esmeralda Marcela Gutierrez, 18, of Madera, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place at around 9:46 p.m. on June 30, at Avenue 17 and Road 28 1/2.
Investigations revealed that Gutierrez was driving a white 2018 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Avenue 17 when she failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection. The Malibu entered the intersection and crashed into the right side of a black 2019 Jeep Wrangler that was heading south on Road 28 1/2.
The impact of the collision sent both vehicles into a home, where they collided with a parked vehicle and the support beam of the home.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Gutierrez was declared deceased at the scene.
A passenger in the Chevrolet, a 19-year-old man, was seriously injured in the crash and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. A 21-year-old female passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The two occupants of the Jeep were also hospitalized with minor injuries.
There were no additional details on the crash. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.
