Beaumont, CA – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed in an early Wednesday morning collision in Beaumont.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as Awoke Ayalew, a 39-year-old resident of Moreno Valley.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:10 a.m. on July 1 along East 1st Street, about 351 feet east of Michigan Avenue.
Beaumont police responded to reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. On arrival, the officers found Ayalew suffering from severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency personnel, Ayalew was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:23 a.m.
Investigators have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the crash.
The crash prompted the closure of portions of East 1st Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Maple Avenue for several hours while officers processed the scene. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Beaumont Police Department.
