Authorities reported that Arias was driving a 2020 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Highway 101 when he suddenly made a right turn and drifted off the roadway
Pismo Beach, CA – The man who was killed in a collision that happened near Pismo Beach last week on Tuesday night has been identified.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Gary Noe Arias, 27, of Santa Maria, was the victim of the wreck that took place at around 11:53 p.m. June 23, on Highway 101 just south of San Luis Bay Drive.
Authorities reported that Arias was driving a 2020 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Highway 101 when he suddenly made a right turn and drifted off the roadway. The Toyota rolled over and came to a rest on its roof in the No. 1 lane.
Shortly after, a 1991 BMW 535i traveling southbound at 65 mph approached the area and crashed into the disabled Toyota.
Arias was declared deceased at the scene of the accident at 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
The 73-year-old driver of the BMW sustained minor to moderate injuries in the incident. According to CHP, the driver was not suspected of impairment.
According to the report, it was unclear whether impairment was a factor in the initial rollover accident.
The crash prompted a temporary closure of the southbound lanes of Highway 101 at San Luis Bay Drive as authorities investigated and cleared the scene. All lanes were reopened at approximately 2 a.m.
The cause of the deadly accident is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
