Modesto, CA – A man was killed and three other people suffered serious injuries following a three-vehicle crash west of Modesto on Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on June 27, 2026, on Ladd Road near Tully Road.
CHP said a 57-year-old Modesto man was driving a 2026 Porsche coupe westbound when it struck the rear of a Ram pickup truck. The impact caused the pickup to leave the roadway and overturn.
After the initial collision, the Porsche continued westbound before crossing into the path of an eastbound Mercedes-Benz SUV, resulting in a head-on crash. The Porsche came to rest in the roadway and caught fire.
The Porsche driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, identified as 38-year-old Jon Burgess of Manteca, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The occupants of the Mercedes SUV, 52-year-old Diana Ybarra and 53-year-old Manuel Ybarra, both of Oakdale, also suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized.
The 27-year-old driver of the Ram pickup sustained minor injuries. Five passengers in the pickup, a 42-year-old woman, a 26-year-old woman, a 16-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old girl, escaped with either minor or no injuries.
Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash. CHP said everyone involved was wearing seat belts or was otherwise properly restrained.
The crash remains under investigation.
