Klamath County, OR – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a commercial truck on Highway 97 near Chemult Monday night, according to the Oregon State Police (OSP).

The OSP identified the victim as 67-year-old Scott Henry Beggio of Klamath Falls.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 10:07 p.m. on June 22, 2026, on Highway 97 near milepost 200 in Klamath County.

Preliminary investigation findings indicate that a southbound white Freightliner commercial motor vehicle, operated by Larry Dotson, 44, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, struck Beggio while he was standing in the southbound travel lane.

Investigators believe Beggio entered the roadway to retrieve his dog after it ran onto the highway and was hit by the vehicle,

Beggio suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Dotson was not injured in the collision.

The crash affected traffic on Highway 97 for approximately five hours while emergency personnel conducted the on-scene investigation.

Oregon State Police were assisted by the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Chemult Rural Fire Protection District, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The investigation remains ongoing.
