Preliminary reports indicate that Micheal Tekeste Asgodom, 46, of Shoreline, was driving a semi pulling an Amazon trailer northbound on Highway 240 when he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with a Subaru Outback traveling southwest on Duportail Street

Richland, WA – A 58-year-old woman died following a semi-truck collision that left her grandchild injured in Richland on Friday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The deadly crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 240 and Duportail Street at around 8:30 p.m. on June 19.
Preliminary reports indicate that Micheal Tekeste Asgodom, 46, of Shoreline, was driving a semi pulling an Amazon trailer northbound on Highway 240 when he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with a Subaru Outback traveling southwest on Duportail Street.
According to WSP, the Subaru driver was declared deceased at the scene. She was identified as Teresa J. Weers, 58, of Richland. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Weers’ 8-year-old granddaughter was in the vehicle with her at the time of the collision. She was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland and was expected to recover. She was reportedly wearing a seatbelt.
Asgodom was also wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the accident. Authorities reported that charges against Asgodom were pending.
Drugs and alcohol were not suspected to have played any role in the collision, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The accident led to the closure of the westbound lanes of Highway 240 until around 1 a.m. on Saturday.
An investigation into the collision by the WSP is still ongoing.
