Petaluma, CA – One person was killed in a crash on Lakeville Highway near Petaluma on Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 3:29 p.m. on southbound Lakeville Highway just south of Cannon Lane.

According to the CHP, two vehicles, including a white Toyota Prius, were involved in the crash. One of the vehicles left the roadway and struck a utility pole, bringing the pole down across the road. The impact also sparked a grass fire near the crash scene.

The driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. No other injuries were immediately reported.

California Highway Patrol officers, firefighters, Pacific Gas & Electric crews, Caltrans personnel, and other emergency responders were dispatched to the scene. Utility crews worked to address downed power and telephone lines, while tow crews removed the damaged vehicle.

The crash caused major traffic disruptions in the area. All lanes of Lakeville Highway near State Route 37 were closed for approximately two hours due to the downed utility pole and lines across the roadway. Motorists were advised to use alternate routes while crews cleared the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
