Petaluma, CA – A man in his 60s was killed in a multi-vehicle crash near Petaluma Friday morning, shutting down a stretch of roadway for hours, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The collision occurred on Adobe Road (State Highway 116) between Frates and Stage Gulch roads at approximately 5:50 a.m. on Friday, when CHP was dispatched to the scene.
According to the CHP, a gray Honda CR-V was traveling eastbound on Adobe Road when, for some reason, it crossed over the double yellow lines and sideswiped a westbound white Chevrolet Silverado before colliding head-on with a black Toyota Camry, also traveling westbound.
The driver of the Honda CR-V, identified only as a man in his 60s, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim was not immediately released pending next of kin notification.
The driver of the Toyota Camry was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Silverado sustained minor injuries. No arrests have been reported in connection with the crash.
The cause of the collision is under investigation by CHP, which is working to determine factors that contributed to the Honda crossing into oncoming traffic.
CHP, along with emergency responders, arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Officers provided traffic control, assisted injured individuals, and began the investigation into the collision.
The crash caused both directions of Adobe Road to be closed while crews worked at the scene. According to a CHP, all lanes were reopened by 10:16 a.m., after approximately four and a half hours of traffic disruption.
The deadly Petaluma crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol as officials continue gathering evidence and witness accounts to clarify what led to the fatal collision.
