The fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:41 a.m. Tuesday on eastbound Interstate 80, about one-half mile east of Norwood Avenue.

Sacramento, CA – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving another vehicle on Interstate 80 in Sacramento on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:41 a.m. Tuesday on eastbound Interstate 80, about one-half mile east of Norwood Avenue.
Preliminary information indicates the crash involved a motorcycle and an unidentified sedan. As per the CHP, the rider failed to slow down and crashed into the rear of the sedan. The impact left the motorcycle down in the roadway and prompted a large emergency response.
The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. Information regarding injuries to occupants of the sedan was not immediately available.
California Highway Patrol officers, firefighters, and other emergency personnel responded to the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was also called to investigate the fatality and recover the victim.
Lanes 2, 3, and 4 of the Highway were blocked. The CHP issued a SigAlert and advised motorists to use Interstate 5 or U.S. 50 as alternate routes. The SigAlert was canceled shortly after 9:20 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation, and additional details have not yet been released.
