Perris, CA – One person suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 215 in Perris early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 5:37 a.m. on northbound Interstate 215 near Placentia Avenue.
Preliminary information indicates a dark-colored sedan was involved in a two-vehicle collision. The sedan overturned, blocking two to three lanes of traffic. Shortly after the crash, the overturned vehicle caught fire, sending heavy smoke into the air. A male occupant was reported outside the vehicle and lying on the ground following the collision.
One person sustained major injuries and was transported to Riverside University Health System Medical Center for treatment. Authorities had not released the victim’s identity or provided an update on the person’s condition.
Firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and extinguished the vehicle fire while treating the injured victim. CHP officers also conducted an investigation and coordinated the removal of the damaged vehicles.
The crash caused significant traffic delays on northbound Interstate 215. All three lanes were temporarily shut down while crews worked at the scene, and the freeway remained impacted until all lanes were reopened at approximately 6:44 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information regarding the parties involved has been released.
