Police said the SUV crossed over into opposing traffic lanes before the collision occurred

Phoenix, AZ. – A man was killed and a woman suffered serious injuries following a head-on collision in central Phoenix early Saturday morning, according to police.
The crash was reported shortly after 6:30 a.m. near Thomas Road and 40th Street.
Authorities said the collision involved two vehicles in a head-on crash. Investigators determined that an SUV driven by a 70-year-old man crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.
The male driver of the SUV and a female passenger were both extricated from the vehicle and transported to a hospital. The man later died from his injuries, while the woman sustained serious injuries and remained hospitalized. Authorities said the driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

Phoenix police officers and emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the collision was reported and assisted with rescuing the occupants trapped inside the SUV.
