Napa, CA – One person was killed, and another suffered severe injuries following a motorcycle crash on Highway 12 in Napa on Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at about 1:52 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, on the eastbound side of Highway 12 near Kelly Road.
Preliminary investigation findings indicate that a motorcyclist carrying a passenger was splitting lanes when the motorcycle struck a black Honda traveling in the right-hand lane. The passenger was ejected onto the roadway following the impact and was then struck by another passing vehicle.
The motorcycle passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin. The motorcycle operator sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa for treatment. The drivers of the Honda and the other involved vehicle were not injured and remained at the scene, cooperating with investigators. No arrests were reported.
California Highway Patrol officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. A helicopter was also dispatched to transport the injured motorcyclist to the hospital. Authorities were seen clearing debris and recovering the damaged motorcycle from the roadway.
The collision caused significant traffic disruptions in the area, forcing the closure of eastbound Highway 12 at Kelly Road for approximately 90 minutes. The Highway was reopened at about 3:23 p.m.
The cause of the fatal motorcycle crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
