Winnetka, CA – Five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in the Winnetka area of Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The collision occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Winnetka Avenue and Nordhoff Street.
Investigators said two vehicles collided near the intersection, causing one vehicle to shear a fire hydrant. Four occupants became trapped inside one of the vehicles as water from the damaged hydrant sprayed into the area.
Emergency crews freed the trapped occupants from the vehicle before transporting the injured patients by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. A fifth person involved in the collision declined transportation to a hospital. Authorities did not immediately release the ages, genders, or conditions of the injured parties.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and conducted rescue operations to remove the trapped occupants safely from the damaged vehicle.
The collision caused disruptions in the area surrounding Winnetka Avenue and Nordhoff Street while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
