Authorities said a vehicle, operated by a 17-year-old boy, struck a woman and fled the scene

Indio, CA – A 17-year-old male driver has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run pedestrian accident that left a woman dead on Golf Center Parkway in Indio late Monday night, according to the Indio Police Department.
The fatal collision occurred on Golf Center Parkway just north of Avenue 45 at approximately 10:32 p.m. on May 4, 2026.
Preliminary reports indicate the victim, an adult woman, was struck by a vehicle while in the roadway. The driver fled the scene before authorities arrived. The circumstances leading up to the collision were not immediately determined.
The woman sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. No additional injuries were reported.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene after a passerby discovered the victim lying unresponsive in the roadway and called 911. Officers and paramedics provided aid before transporting her for further treatment.
The crash caused disruptions along Golf Center Parkway as authorities worked the scene and began their investigation.
Police later identified a suspect in connection with the incident. The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody at approximately 12:59 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, and was booked into Indio Juvenile Hall on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
