San Leandro, CA – At least one person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 880 in San Leandro early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal incident was reported at about 4:19 a.m. on northbound 880 Freeway, just south of the Davis Street off-ramp.
Preliminary investigation revealed that multiple vehicles, including a white BMW and a box truck, were involved in the crash. Authorities said the collision resulted in a mangled vehicle that became crushed against the truck near the off-ramp, and debris was scattered across all lanes.
CHP Officials confirmed that at least one person was killed in the crash. Two ambulances transported other individuals to Eden Medical Center with unspecified injuries. The number of injured parties was not immediately clear. No arrests were reported.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and CHP units, arrived at the scene and worked to assist victims while coordinating with the coroner.
The crash caused major disruptions along Interstate 880, prompting a SigAlert and the closure of all northbound lanes for several hours. Traffic was brought to a standstill as crews worked to clear debris and reopen lanes.
Authorities later began reopening lanes, though the Davis Street off-ramp remained closed for an extended period as crews worked to recover a heavily loaded box truck.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal collision.
