According to the police, the accident happened on 51st Avenue at Van Buren Street.
58-year-old Melvin R. Johnson was walking south on 51st Avenue and was crossing Van Buren Street when he was hit by a car.
The man died at the scene.
The driver was not impaired and stayed on the scene.
The intersection was closed for several hours as the scene was cleared.
